Red Lead Manufacturing Plant / Red Lead Electric Furnace

OPERATION :
The Red Lead Electric Furnace is a refractory-lined oven designed for the batch processing of lead oxide. The furnace operates at a temperature range of 450–500°C, ensuring the conversion of PbO (lead oxide) to Pb₃O₄ (red lead) is complete. This conversion process typically takes between 20 to 24 hours, depending on the free lead content in the input lead oxide. The higher the free lead, the faster the conversion process.
A gas or oil-fired burner is employed to maintain the required temperature, and thermocouples are used to monitor the furnace’s internal temperature. When the temperature reaches the desired level, the burner is automatically turned off to save energy, ensuring efficient operation. The furnace operates at negative pressure, and the combustion air from the burner is filtered and released into the atmosphere. This ensures that the system remains eco-friendly and safe.
The furnace is fed by a screw conveyor connected to a load cell-mounted silo, which uses vibrators to feed the oxide into the conveyor. This automated system ensures precise and efficient material handling throughout the entire batch process.
